the role of the mediator

A mediator is a neutral party whose task is to assist the parties in a dispute to find a path towards a mutually-satisfactory solution. As a neutral, the mediator does not make decisions, issue rulings, or provide legal advice. Instead, the mediator applies their experience and background to quickly comprehend the key facts and issues in order to assist the parties to find a practical, realistic and sometimes creative path towards an effective and timely resolution. It takes a balanced combination of patience and persistence, but there is a lot of professional satisfaction knowing that the mediator was able to help the parties overcome obstacles and reach a lasting and successful agreement.
